R&D Research Technician

 

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Briefly summarize the primary purpose of the position.

A Research Technician may be work in catalyst preparation and/or catalyst testing units. The position requires close supervision initially but less as experience is gained. Works a three shift schedule if required. 
MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  1. For catalyst preparation:
  • Sets up and maintenance of lab equipment
  • Calculates starting materials and prepares catalyst samples.
  • Maintains detailed laboratory records.
  • Charges, starts-up and monitors laboratory reactor runs
  • Maintains inventory of chemicals and supplies
  • Operates, monitors and maintains bench scale or pilot plant catalyst test equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and corrects operating problems.
  • Services and maintains equipment.
  • Maintains written records of activities.
  • Maintains gas supply inventories.
  1. For catalyst testing units:
  1. Works in a manner consistent with good chemical safety practices and environmental regulations and maintains an orderly workplace. Good multitasking and work management skills, and detail and accuracy oriented. Basic knowledge of various instrumentation.

 

 

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTUREReports to a Chemist (if working in catalyst preparation) or the Manager, Development (if working in catalyst testing)

BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS

  1. BS Degree, Chemistry – minimum GPA of 3.0
  2. Experience working in a laboratory environment
  3. Good written and verbal communication skills
  4. Good math skills
  5. Able to handle Microsoft Word & Excel work
  6. Can do occasional heavy work
