Presales Engineering Manager
Location: Remote. Willingness to travel up to 25%.
Department: Sales
Reports To: Sales leadership
The Presales Engineering Manager will serve as the technical expert supporting the sales organization across the U.S. and Canada. This individual contributor role bridges the gap between customer requirements and OEM’s mission-critical solutions by leading technical discussions, delivering product demonstrations, and designing tailored solutions. The Presales Engineering Manager will collaborate closely with Sales to advance opportunities, remove obstacles, and ensure a seamless handoff to services and support teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Act as a trusted technical advisor for customers and prospects throughout the sales cycle.
• Conduct product demonstrations and develop technical proposals tailored to customer needs.
• Provide professional responses to customer RFPs/RFIs.
• Engage in deep technical conversations with IT leadership (CIOs, IT directors) and technical stakeholders.
• Effectively position OEM’s solutions against competitive offerings, articulating business value as well as technical benefits.
• Capture customer feature requests and share structured feedback with Product Management, Sales, Development, and Engineering.
• Represent OEM’s at field events, including industry/user conferences and technology summits.
• Support the sales process by advising on solution design, integration strategies, and best practices.
• Set and manage expectations with customers and internal stakeholders to ensure clarity and alignment.
• Remain organized and adaptable, removing sales obstacles through creativity and technical acumen.
Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
• 10+ years of customer-facing presales, product support, or product management experience in the mission-critical communications industry.
• Strong technical foundation with experience in networking, storage, virtualization, telecommunications, and Internet technologies.
• Proficiency in APIs and third-party integrations.
• Basic knowledge of computer hardware, operating systems, and storage devices.
• Intermediate knowledge of routing and switching methodologies, telecommunications, and Internet technologies.
• Familiarity with virtualization and cloud technologies.
• Experience developing Statements of Work (SOWs) or similar documents.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills; ability to simplify complex technology for diverse audiences.
• Strong presentation skills with the ability to influence both business and technical stakeholders.
• Self-directed and able to work independently while maintaining focus on collaborative goals.
